Pad printing, also known as tampography, is a printing process that is used to transfer a 2D image onto a 3D object. Through this process we can decorate many items, it doesn't matter if they are curved or have an uneven surface, using this printing method will still achieve a quality print. Below is a basic overview of the pad printing process, and when it’s best to use it.
What is it?
The process gets its name from the silicone pad used to pick up the ink from an engraved metal plate and then transfer it to the object. Think of it like those stamps you probably used to make crafts when you were a kid – only much more sophisticated! Similar to a regular stamp, the pad-printing process begins with an etched image that will be filled with ink. This etched plate which has been tailored to the shape of your logo or artwork is usually created using laser engraving. A silicone pad, which is flexible and can conform to various shapes, picks up the ink from the plate. The pad is then pressed onto the object and left to air dry.
Advantages
The silicone pad's flexibility allows it to conform to the contours of the object, enabling printing on all types of surfaces. Pad printing is versatile and is often chosen for its ability to handle complex shapes which can be used to personalize balls, pens, and many other oddly shaped items. The advantage of this method is that you can print detailed logos and small text with no loss of quality. Pad printing supports multi-color printing (up to four colors from the PMS scale.) allowing for vibrant and eye-catching designs. This is beneficial for creating visually appealing promotional products that grab attention.
When to use it
Pad printing is especially useful in situations where other printing methods would simply not work. Even screen printing requires a flat surface, which limits the number of suitable products. Pad printing on the other hand is compatible with a variety of materials such as glass, plastic, ceramic, and more. Additionally, pad printing provides consistent and repeatable results, ensuring uniformity across a batch of promotional products. This consistency is crucial for maintaining brand integrity and recognition.
The adaptability of this imprint method makes it ideal for products like notebooks, keychains, and multi-use tools. Great for any business looking to promote their brand using different products, pad printing allows you to build a kit of an array of items with a consistent imprint. The precision and clarity of pad printing contribute to a more professional and polished brand appearance. These are only some of the reasons you should consider personalizing your items using this method for your next promotion.
