On the Sunday morning of September 22nd, 2019 the COMDA.COM team took part in their 1st province-wide walkathon aimed at raising awareness and funds for animal welfare. We introduced you to our partnership and why this cause was so dear to us in a previous blog. Now that the event has concluded, we want to share with you some of the most important takeaways from this wonderful experience.
The day began with breakfast being served by the Ontario SPCA and volunteers who helped put the event together. We then got to see a behind the scenes tour that helped us better understand the importance and reach of the work this organization does. After this, the Good as Gold K9 Dog Agility Race took place, which led us into the opening ceremonies and, shortly after, the ribbon cutting signifying the start of the Walkathon. A highlight of the day for us was sponsoring Andy’s Photo Booth, and seeing all the people take pictures with their furry best friends! There were prizes, gifts, cake and contests – something for everyone who attended!
More than just a walk, for us it was a learning and enlightening experience that we won’t soon forget. It was PAWsome to see so many people from many different walks of life coming together under one common objective – animal advocacy. We are proud to say that Andy Collet’s team collected a total of $2345 in addition to all the pet items that we donated, making us the top team at our location. This contributed to the $29,655 that our particular centre raised, but as we mentioned before this was a province wide campaign. To date (and the number is steadily climbing) the Friends For Life! Walk has raised an impressive $184,721 to support a long list of programs and services for animals in need.
The Ontario SPCA will use the funds to prevent animal cruelty, provide humane education, sheltering, fostering adoptions and mobile veterinary services among a long list of other things. The funds will stay within the communities that they were raised in to help animals in that area! We would like to thank everyone who participated in the event, either as a sponsor, organizer or simply as an animal lover! We thank our staff for their valuable donations, and an immeasurable amount of support throughout the campaign.
